Count visitors to a site
You've made a website, you published, and now you want to know how many world visit it. There are many variations to this, variations which are either free or for money, each with different stuff or downside.
I think in terms of monitoring the best service is Google Analytics . Can you register as many sites as you want, see detailed statistics and detailed, you can integrate it with Google AdSense and see all sorts of fancy reports. And most importantly it's User!
Another service that I use is StatCounter . There is a free version which keeps statistics for the last few hundred visitors, but if you do not pay this limitation. Well, I liked the service because unlike Google Analytics you can make traffic data public.
But if you have a website and Roma want to monitor in Romania, and get maybe 2-3 clicks, then there trafic.ro and wta.ro . Trafic.ro was free a long time, but now costs 10eur/an like. Wta.ro instead is free and will probably take some of those left in air trafic.ro, which will still be free for existing sites by the end of 2009.
How does it work?
After the site is registered to any of these services, after it is generally checked manually by an operator to see if the terms and conditions of use, and after the tax was paid for paid services, you will provide a piece of html code to be inserted in each page of the site.
Generally this is very simple to do for anyone with some basic knowledge of html.
Functional when loading a page then the website, and run counter script. It sends information about visitors to the server service which aggregates all data accompanying metering and exhibit general reports.
To identify the number of visitors using special techniques that include recognition based on IP address and cookies, are not more to this article, but essentially it is a do not count a visit from a same same visitor one the same page two times a day.
Interesting differences
I have a site which is counted on trafic.ro, wta.ro, statcounter.com and google analytics. Although normally results should be identical, this does not happen. At least there was discussion about trafic.ro media that would intentionally manipulate the results of the largest sites of advertising influence on them. Eventually many mov big "players" have gone on trafic.ro, some have migrated sati.ro (I understand that it has quite high prices), others were based only on google. Among the first sites that have been dropped trafic.ro Softpedia.
To return to my site, a small site, without much traffic, about 100 unique hits per day and 150 on average. For one day chosen at random have statistics like this:
- trafic.ro : 63 visits, 90 views
- wta.ro : 101 visitors, 112 visits, 151 views
- StatCounter : 104 visitors, 145 views
- Google Analytics : 76 visitors 85 visits, 113 views
Taken nominal differences are not very large for the site traffic is not great, but they are sensitive difference of percentage and trafic.ro has the lowest figures, no wonder so many people upset.
The WTA and tend to trust StatCounter mau little, but I doubt that artificially increase the number of times, maybe not correctly identify the number of visitors.
For some reason I have great trust in google.
However overall I think the average number metering systems is the best figure for the actual number of visitors. And I think the maximum number of views of the display of these meters is most relevant. What if I have entered 2 times on the same page? There are two views, I saw advertisements about two times, right?
I'm curious and I hear other opinions on the meter by trafic.ro vs. others ...

The job is simple: trafic.ro and google analytics contorzeaza not have JS disabled visitors. Strictly the JS engine, the risks are much higher, js error in stopping the entire page count.
I recommend that you trust WTA and StatCounter.
WTA gives IPs, refererii, you can compare logs and site. You'll see that there are 2-5% less hits than what you report server logs.
About StatCounter I have more, but I'm sure that they count and visitors without JS enabled (yes, there are many, and yes, there are many issues to JS).
